Destined Dystopia

Peekaboo! They’re watching you. The streets have eyes, the walls have ears. They track and log your every move. They own your hopes, they craft your fears.

They count the money in your bank. They know which way you cast your votes. They filmed that private cyber-wank. They scrutinised those secret notes.

They scan your texts, your emails too. Your profile’s set: they know your kind. They keep their all-seeing eye on you, And, one day, soon, they’ll read your mind.

They’ve spied on you exhaustively Since terror’s scourge eroded rights. Now privacy and liberty Are vaguely reminisced delights.

They used ‘the enemy within’ – Informing us the threat loomed large – To let Big Brother’s watch begin, Saying we’d be safe with them in charge.

They banned encryption, hacked us all And outlawed anonymity. They waited for their foes to fall, Then neutralised the rebel free.

This tyranny will not end well; We’ll rise up to regain our pride. The people won’t endure this hell: We’ll take back rights we’ve been denied.

We’ll band together, millions strong, To stand our ground and raise our flags. In masks and hoods, our raging throng Will wage a war on those scumbags.

But, what if we’re too slow to fight? We sleepwalked past the warning signs; We let the monster grow in might And failed to read between the lines.

Thus, now oppression’s teeth are clenched, We must, perhaps, accept our fate. Some blazing freedoms can’t be quenched. We were too trusting, and too late.
