Je suis Charlie

Charlie Hebdo.
Mindless slaughter.
Hopeless dogma.

Hard to process:
Too pathetic,
Too barbaric,
Too insane.

Savage slayers,
Brainwashed butchers.
Peaceful people
Murdered, maimed.

Vile aggressors.
No atonement,
No excuses.
Be ashamed.

Pointless carnage,
Begging vengeance;
Bringing hatred
On their kind.

Blame religion:
Drilled unreason;
Myth and madness

On with satire,
On with humour;
Guard the right
To disagree.

Rise above it.
Be offended,
Be incensed but
Keep speech free.

Teach compassion,
Preach good-humour;
Humane values
Must endure.

Je suis Charlie.
Nous sommes unis.
Discours libre
Pour toujours!

Modern Madness:Rhymes Against Humanity front cover. Book and cover design by Ross Adamson

The poem Je suis Charlie features in Modern Madness: Rhymes Against Humanity, the groundbreaking poetry book by Ross Adamson.

Available in paperback and ebook editions, this storming full-length collection is both a masterclass in skillful, high-octane rhyming verse and a timely, trenchant indictment of early 21st century society.

Modern Madness is smart and streetwise, eloquent and insightful, vehement and rebellious. It buzzes with expressive verve and lyrical charm from the first poem to the last.

Adamson’s emphatic ‘rhymes of the times’ fearlessly tackle emotive topical themes, some sharpshooting a laser-guided dart to the heart, others detonating a poetic powder keg of righteous anger.
